Martial Arts University views the martial arts as a journey as well as a way of life. We believe that there is no end in a persons martial arts training. MAU is a huge source of information. We have had students train for well over 15 years and continue to grow and learn new knowledge.
The amount of time it takes to get a Martial Arts University black belt varies from person to person. Unlike most commercial martial arts schools, Martial Arts University has an incredibly high criteria for it’s black belts. The process is as follows. First a student must become an apprentice instructor (Teishi) for close to six months as well as pass a written certification exam. After that a Teishi may be promoted to an assistant instructor (Kohai). A Kohai must then instruct for close to a year and pass another written certification examination before he/she can be considered to be eligible for promotion to head assistant instructor (Sempai). A Sempai must gain roughly over a years experience as well as pass a third written examination before they are eligible for a Street Defense black belt.
